With my group of friends being spontaneous isn’t in our style. In fact, it’s not even in our vocabulary. Any outing we have in mind has to be carefully thought out and planned to the T. I’m talking when we’re getting there, how long we’re staying, what we’re buying, the price and most importantly how we’re getting there and back. The last time we tried to be spontaneous it didn’t work out so well and we were left disappointed. Luckily this time was a success.

Since the start of the semester, I’ve literally been begging Jhodi almost EVERY day to have lunch with me but we could never decide on a place to go. To be honest I just wanted something different from the usual patty, fruit smoothie and box lunch we buy at school. Plus we NEVER go out. It just so happens that one day we were on our way to school and we drove past the new location of an old restaurant - Chilitos - and something clicked. This was the one.

Chilitos JaMexican Food

Chilitos is a Mexican restaurant located on Hope Road in Kingston (Jamaica). They specialize in Mexican foods and snacks that are ideal for a lunch date or a small get together with friends. The unique thing about Chilitos is that they don’t just cook Mexican food, they add a Jamaican twist as well; hence the term JaMexican. One reason why I love my Jamaican culture is because it can be added to almost anything: especially food. I mean tacos, burritos and enchiladas are clearly Mexican foods but the spices, seasonings and cooking methods Chilitos uses will have a metaphorical bell going off in your head like “ding ding ding! This is Jamaican!”.

Their menu includes things like nachos, tacos (soft & hard shell), burritos, bowls, enchiladas and quesadillas. It’s a 3 step process to creating your entreé and it’s super easy to follow:
  • Choose your meal
  • Choose your filling (meat) then
  • Choose your sauce
The final price you pay is dependent solely on your choice of filling so as expected chicken is the cheapest option.

They even have a bar in the middle of the building with a colorful Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) mural in the background. I don’t fancy alcohol so I didn’t plan on getting any. Especially not at 12 noon.

Lunch Date With My Girls

So our day started with an 8 o’clock class that lasted two hours followed by a one hour meeting. To put it simply our day was boring, uneventful and as interesting as watching paint dry. To be honest I couldn’t focus on anything that was said because I was stuck trying not to get too excited for our lunch date.

A drive (from my school to the restaurant) that should have been 5 minutes turned into 30 because of unexpected traffic and a detour. After multiple twists and turns we finally got to the location but at this point we were annoyed and starving - I would’ve ate a slice of dry bread right then and there of it was offered to me.

My excitement kicked back in after I saw their first mural and my hunger literally vanished. It was gone long enough for us to be seated, place our orders and proceed to take a million pictures at almost all four corners of the building.

We finally settled down when or meals arrived and dug in. I decided to to get an enchilada with ground beef, Jhodi got the same but with shredded pork and Shamu played it safe and got some pork tacos. I really loved the way they served the food because it’s like they kept the Mexican theme. I was literally expecting my enchilada to be in a piece of foil paper wrapped like a burrito but it was served in a pitch black bowl that was piping hot. I kind of burnt myself when I tried pulling it towards me but I wasted no time digging in. I made sure I got an Insta worthy pic then I mixed everything together like the big child I am.

Overall the food was good, the vibe was good and my pictures turned out amazing so if you guys have a Food Bucket List I recommend adding Chilitos to it. If not, make one and put Chilitos at the very top because the experience is worth the visit.
  • Have you guys ever been to Chilitos? Do you plan to?
  • Have you ever tried Mexican, Jamaican or JaMexican food?

Versatile Blogger Award

Photo credit : All Things Ken

Hey guys! Guess what? I’ve been nominated for another award!!! This time it is the Versatile Blogger Award because just like my natural hair I “ooze versatility”. See what I did there? Well anyways I was nominated by the lovely, and I mean LOVELY (like a bouquet of flowers) Michelle. Thank you so much for nominating me because things like this really makes me feel better about blogging

I met her on Twitter and she’s one of those friends that you don’t know in person but she’ll always support your work. Just like an invisible cheerleader behind a camera - cheering you on and pushing you to slay every picture.

My two favorite posts from her blog are 5 Skills to Master Before Moving Out and her Basic French Macaron Recipe and I’m pretty sure you guys will love them too. So to check them out!

If you’ve been with me since the beginning you’ve probably read my 12 Random Facts About Me post ( if not check it out right here). Well the Versatile Blogger Award is similar to this but it’s 7 random facts instead. It’s like the universe is forcing me to learn about myself with these posts and I don’t like it.

Versatile Blogger Award Rules

1. Say thank you to the person that nominated you.
2. Link back to the blog of the person who nominated you.
3. List seven facts about yourself.
4. Nominated 15 other bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award.

So seeing as I already did a random facts post I’ve decided to switch it up a bit - not too much, just some tweaking. This time I’ll be listing 7 things no one knows about me. These are things you wouldn’t even guess about me unless you either lived with me or we’re joined by the hips (like my little sister).

Now let’s get this show on the road!

7 Facts About Chevy

  • I bite bread. After years of doing this I finally realized that I unconsciously bite a piece of bread before I use it. Every time I remove a slice or slices from the bread bag I stick them in my mouth so that I can re-tie the bag. While I have them in my mouth I guess my instincts kick in and I automatically bite of a piece. Then I use the rest for my sandwich. But basically all my sandwiches have a random bite mark on the side.

  • I'm a game addict. I have about 10 different games on my phone and whenever I’m bored I start playing them. I pick one to start with and whenever my lives run out I move on to the next one. By the time I get to the tenth game the lives from the first one a refilled. And I just keep going in a loop. But I only ever do this when I’m absolutely bored like on my way to school or in a boring class.

  • I eat cold food way too often. I’m not talking about the regular cold pizza or ice cream. I’m talking curried chicken, stewed chicken, rice, beef, mutton you name it. This is all because of my laziness as once I’m hungry I’ll rather eat the cold food than to plug up the microwave, wait til it’s done and unplug the microwave before I can eat. Now that I think about it, this might be the reason why I have stomach issues

  • I chew on the left side of my mouth. When I was younger I had a cavity on the left side of my mouth and to avoid the pain I ate on the right side. Later on I got a cavity on the right side so I went to get them filled/fixed. Everything was fine but now my wisdom tooth is growing on the right side and it’s almost always sensitive so until it’s done growing I’ll be chewing on the left.

  • I’m a binger. Whether it’s movies, k-dramas, books or a tv series once I’ve started it I’m binging it. I have to see what happens next or I’ll die and most times (all the time) it ends with me finishing the entire thing in a day. Depending on how long it is and if I have food, drinks and a bathroom nearby. But I’m serious once I get in the zone there’s no stopping me, I might not even know what’s going on around me.

  • This one’s kind of gross but whenever I go to bed without brushing my teeth I dream about all my teeth falling out. I’m kind of paranoid in real life - might be my Jamaicaness - and I guess my paranoia followed me into my dreams. What happens is I start off my night perfectly fine, my dreams are normal and then boom my teeth start falling out for no reason. Then I jump up out of bed and run to the bathroom to brush me teeth. This has been happening for years so at this point I’m scared of going to bed without brushing my teeth.

  • I dance in the shower. So everyone has this habit of singing loudly and proudly in the shower thinking they’re performing in front of a live audience and they’re hitting EVERY note. My little sister does this every day twice a day; but not me. I show my skills through dancing. I mean I’m wining my waist, twerking and bussing some moves that will never see a dance floor. But the good thing is I’m getting a workout while I shower.

What’s In My Bag? | Natural Hair Tag

What makes a girl a woman? Is it her expertly beat face (makeup), her stylish heels or her handbag that seems to match every outfit? I’m convinced it’s the handbag because both my mom and grandma had one specific handbag that they took everywhere and it always went well with whatever they wore. For me it’s a completely different story. The closest I’ve come to a handbag is standing in TjMaxx in the bag section thinking “these look so cute” then making my way over to the snacks.
