Let’s Get Back To Business

Let's get back to business, Self care, me, time, listening, Black girl, blog, blogging @Chevytakesthemic

Blogging to me was something fun, something that anyone could do because it was their blog and they didn't have to follow any "rules". They could post whatever they wanted and this freedom was what inspired me to start blogging but along the way I lost my freedom. And now I'm trying to find it.

"It's time to start doing things for me. -Chevy"

I started this blog as a means of release, a channel I could use to let out how I’m feeling or anything that’s bothering me. Somewhat like a purge. It wasn’t about getting page views or comments, I just wanted something for me and if those perks came along with it then that was perfectly fine. But for the last month and a half of this blog (yeah time flies) I found myself constantly checking my stats, finding platforms to share my blog on, joining Facebook groups and participating in Twitter chains/threads. To put it simply, I found myself caring about views more than the main purpose of my blog. I was getting frustrated almost every day because enough people weren’t viewing my page or commenting on my posts, my page domain was nonexistent and I stopped getting new followers on Twitter.

So something that was supposed to help me relax and detox my cluttered mind was adding to the mess.

Everyone that’s close to me would think I’m a blogging pro because of all the videos I was watching, all the articles I was reading about building SEO but in all honesty, I don’t know what the heck I’m doing. All I know is SEO means Search Engine Optimization and that’s it. Nothing more. I barely know how to do half the things these videos and articles recommended and it’s extremely difficult to do this on your own. For everyone who doesn’t know blogging is way harder than it looks (I mean waaayyyy harder), especially when you want to do it for a living. You have to get a domain, find web hosting, create ads, use keywords, plan posts ahead of time, etc.

So props to all full-time professional bloggers, your dedication is surreal and I admire your determination.

Writer's block is the worst, Let's get back to business, Self care, me, time, listening, Black girl, blog, blogging @Chevytakesthemic

I came to this realization due to a constant, nonstop writer's block. I mean I was stuck for weeks; I had no motivation to write, I couldn’t think of any ideas and my brain was focusing on everything else but writing. It was horrible. Everything I read said that I had to keep writing, plan everything out and post frequently but I couldn’t even write one post much less post three times a week (this was my goal when I just started).

Another thing is this blog was meant for me and my readers all across the world; meaning PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW ME (strangers who can relate to my content). This was so that I wouldn’t have to worry about getting judgement or criticism from people I know. But this died when I had to share my blog on platforms that my friends and family were members of (eg. Facebook) to get more views. It’s sad, isn’t it?

I found myself thinking ‘I need to write a new post!’ ‘I can’t keep sharing the last post!’ ‘My readers are losing interest!’ and the more I thought about this the more flustered I got and the stronger my writer's block became. I wasn’t writing for me. I was writing for views and that realization was crippling because exactly what I said I wouldn’t do is what I ended up doing.

So now I’m going to try taking everything easy and just writing whenever I get inspired to or whenever I feel the urge because that’s when all the good stuff comes out.

Now let’s get back to our regular broadcasting.

    Damn, that's crazy

    1. Yes it is. But I’m back on track now.

  2. I get what you mean about wanting to have the platform away from people you know reading it and being judged by them. I feel the same way, and partially why I've created blog specific accounts! I'm glad you found the solution that works best for you!

    1. Thank you for reading and from now on I’ll be blogging for me.

  3. I like your release valve. I agree, do it just for you. Good Luck :-)

    1. Thank you! From now on I'll be writing whatever I'm inspired to write.

  4. Writing is something that comes comes from your heart. Let the process happen naturally and you will be surprised by the results. <3

    1. I couldn't agree more. It might take a while but I'll only write whenever I get the urge to. Thanks for reading!
